use united cash plus miles to book award tickets
United airlines Mileage Plus frequent flyers can book one-way awards tickets or use a combination of miles and cash for a roundtrip flight, hotel stay, or car rental. With Mileage Plus Miles & Money Awards, members have more ways to use miles and greater flexibility than ever before.
If you are short of miles—you can use cash plus miles to book plane tickets. For example, instead of paying 25,000 points for a roundtrip domestic Economy Saver Award ticket, you may be able to user fewer miles and make up the difference with cash.
Miles & Money Awards are available on Saver and Standard awards in all classes of service. They are not offered on Star Alliance Awards or awards on other partner airlines.
Miles & Money Awards may not be offered on every United/United Express flight to every destination.
“Our members are looking for more ways to get the most out of their hard-earned miles, and we continue to deliver new awards that enable them to do just that,” said Robert Sahadevan, vice president – Mileage Plus. “Our new cash plus miles Awards give our members the flexibility to use their miles – and fewer of them – by providing more options to book the type of travel they want.”
If a member only needs a one-way ticket, Mileage Plus’ One-Way Awards are available for half the miles of a roundtrip award (starting at 12,500 miles for a domestic Saver Award) on United or United Express-operated flights. For members who are low on miles or just looking for more ways to use the miles they have, Miles & Money Awards let them book a roundtrip flight, hotel stay or car rental for fewer miles and make up the difference in cash. For example, members can fly roundtrip for 10,000 miles + $100. * More information about One-Way Awards and Miles & Money Awards is available at www.mileageplus.com.
united airlines program improvements in the past six months, including the elimination of last-minute award booking fees and the introduction of Hotel and Car Awards, give members even more opportunities to use their Mileage Plus miles.

Kingfisher frequent flyer tie up american airlines
American Airlines and Kingfisher enter into a comprehensive codeshare and frequent flyer relationship starting in 2011, Kingfisher Airlines is a member-elect of the world’s leading quality airline alliance, oneworld, of which American is a founder member.
the codeshare relationship will allow American to place its AA* code on Kingfisher Airlines’ extensive domestic network beyond New Delhi. American will also codeshare on Kingfisher Airlines’ flights from London Heathrow to both New Delhi and Mumbai. American operates a daily non-stop service between New Delhi and Chicago O’Hare and Kingfisher Airlines will place its IT* code on these flights as well as on selected American flights between the United States and London Heathrow.
Members of American’s AAdvantage and Kingfisher Airlines’ King Club frequent flyer programs will be able to earn miles on the codeshare flights. The two airlines are exploring a more comprehensive frequent flyer agreement that will include the ability to earn and redeem miles across each carrier’s network.
American is currently celebrating the fifth anniversary of its daily service between New Delhi and Chicago O’Hare. In August this year, American moved its New Delhi operations into the brand new, world-class Terminal Three at Indira Gandhi International Airport where Kingfisher Airlines is also located. This will help to provide seamless connectivity for passengers transferring between the two airlines’ flights. Also located in New Delhi’s Terminal Three is Kingfisher Airlines’ prestigious new premium lounge which will be available to eligible American Airlines passengers.
“We are very pleased to announce our codeshare partnership with Kingfisher, an airline that offers our customers the choice of flying to more cities throughout India and a more convenient travel experience,” said Virasb Vahidi, American's Chief Commercial Officer. “We look forward to strengthening further our partnership as Kingfisher completes the process of joining the oneworld alliance.”

faa rules for passengers stuck on plane for hours
You can say goodbye to the endless hours of waiting on a runway-bound plane on which there's no food and the toilets are out of order.
A new rule takes effect that will put a halt to lengthy tarmac delays on domestic flights and provide additional consumer protections to the flying public. "Airline passengers deserve to be treated fairly," said U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood, "and this new rule will require airlines to respect the rights of their customers."
the so-called "three-hour rule," which requires airlines to give passengers the option of returning to the terminal if they have been stuck on a plane for longer than three hours.
The FAA bill also would require airlines to develop contingency plans -- approved by the FAA -- to ensure that passengers are provided with adequate food, water and restrooms, and allowed to deplane in the event of a lengthy tarmac delay.
since the rule was implemented, the number of planes stranded on the tarmac each month has dwindled to single digits nationwide.
Consumer victory
"The Senate's vote is a huge victory for job creation, for the safety of air travel and for protecting the rights of airline passengers nationwide," said Kate Hanni, president of FlyersRights.org, a consumer group. "The new Boxer-Snowe amendment for protecting our most vulnerable infants in FAA approved CRS restraints, is a giant step forward in protecting those who cannot advocate for themselves."
The FAA Reauthorization Act will support 280,000 jobs nationwide, according to the U.S. Travel Association, while helping airports modernize their facilities and improve safety.
FlyersRights.org, and other airline passenger advocacy groups, were founded after a series of highly publicized tarmac delays in which passengers were kept on board planes for hours, while sitting on airport tarmacs.

sw airlines plan flights atlanta to macarthur airport
Atlanta could grow into the largest operation in Southwest Airlines’ system nationwide after the carrier completes its proposed acquisition of AirTran Airways, U.S. Senator Charles E. Schumer today called Southwest Airlines to consider additional flight capacity for MacArthur Airport on Long Island if a proposed merger between Southwest and AirTran goes through. Southwest Airlines is MacArthur’s most prosperous airline and gaining access to airports currently serviced by AirTran, such as Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, would be hugely beneficial to Southwest passengers in Long Island, New York.
“Convenient and affordable air service is essential for Long Island families and this merger presents significant opportunities for Long Island residents who depend on MacArthur for cheaper flights,” said Schumer. “Service to Atlanta would give travelers the ability to get to multiple destinations, nationally and internationally, that they currently cannot get to via MacArthur.”
direct flights to Atlanta Harstfield-Jackson Airport from MacArthur would provide coverage for a major gap in East Coast service between Baltimore and Orlando. Additionally, access to Atlanta would open up MacArthur Airport to connecting flights for major vacation destinations in the Caribbean and Mexico. According to a demand study funded with the support of Schumer, MacArthur Airport estimates there are 258,000 potential customers that currently fly to Atlanta from New York City airports who could fly instead out of Long Island.

best time to buy delta airlines tickets
Prices vary but the closer to peak times the more expensive plane tickets get. If you want to fly on Delta airlines from BOS to Finland, you can probably find some very good deals in February. On the other hand, that is one of the most expensive months to go from BOS to Florida.
The best fare for delta flights for travel on a given day can occur at any time. The talk about 45 days out, or purchasing Wednesday at 12 am just after midnight, or never buy tickets on the weekend are all myths. I've seen the best fares offered at 331 days out in some cases and 30 days in advance in others. The best way to secure a good fare is to start looking 331 days in advance of your travel date and check everyday (several times a day, if possible). Knowing what the "standard" rates are for a route allows you to jump on a good fare when it appears.
If you are booking closer in and unfamiliar with prices on a route, it is more difficult to ascertain a good fare from an ordinary one. One trick is to check what the fare would be if you booked travel for 331 days out. Forget for the moment that it is not when you want to travel. It will give you a good idea of what the "standard" fare is. If the fare for your travel date is the same as the 331 day fare, it's very likely that you should wait. If the fare for your travel date is higher, you probably already missed the good fares.
The "high season" for a particular location is often decided by its weather.
Also, holidays have to be taken into consideration. Flying right before Christmas is usually more expensive than a few weeks later. If the children are out of school, trips anywhere tend to be expensive -- but more so if you are talking about Orlando during the Christmas or Easter breaks.
Also, unless you are a major football fan, I would strongly suggest avoiding a city on the weekend that it is hosting the Superbowl.
Also, check the delta airlines website homepage regularly, as they sometimes announce one day sales to cities in Europe. I have heard of some amazing deals to london in the $600 range for June/July.
