New routes making Copenhagen more accessible

Norwegian, the second-largest airline at Copenhagen Airport, will open a service between Copenhagen and Helsinki in the spring of 2011, thereby stepping up competition on one of the largest routes out of Copenhagen.

“The launch of an additional service to and from Helsinki will increase Copenhagen’s accessibility for the benefit of tourism as well as trade and industry. To date, Helsinki is the seventh-largest destination out of Copenhagen, and we therefore expect that Nowegian’s expansion of its route network will be well received by our passengers, said Carsten Nørland, VP, Sales for Copenhagen Airports A/S.

The new service will be opened on 5 May with 11 weekly frequencies: two daily frequencies during weekdays (Mondays to Fridays) and one on Sundays. For additional information, go to norwegian.dk

Improved accessibility to Kiev
Coinciding with the transition to the winter programme on 31 October, Ukrainian-based airline AeroSvit will be opening its new service between Copenhagen and Kiev. This will make access easier to one of Eastern Europe’s important growth economies, as there will be daily flights from Copenhagen to the Ukrainian capital.

“Ukraine has generated strong economic growth over the past decade and is therefore an important trading partner for Denmark. For the same reason, having as much access to the country as possible is important, and with its daily flights AeroSvit contributes to this, said Carsten Nørland.

AeroSvit will offer connections via Kiev to the major cities of Ukraine and a large number of popular destinations such as Bangkok, Beijing and Delhi.

“The launch of this new service is very important and promising for us. Being the largest network carrier in Ukraine, AeroSvit will now be able to generate new traffic between Copenhagen and a large number of destinations on various continents, said Anton Mattis, First Deputy Director General for Commerce at AeroSvit.

New service to Bayer
On 2 November, German-based regional airline Ostfriesische Lufttransport will launch a new service between Copenhagen and Nuremberg with six weekly frequencies. It will be the only service to and from this major German city, and it will further strengthen Copenhagen Airport’s position as a hub since a large number of the passengers are expected to transfer at Copenhagen.

OLT’s service will be operated with a late-afternoon flight out of Copenhagen Airport at 17.10. OLT is already expecting to add a daily morning flight out of Copenhagen in its summer timetable, as the combination of a daily morning and afternoon flight would create a strong business product.
